Welcome to Fable & Folio (Or: Why My Aesthetic Planner is Full of Scribbles)

Pull up a chair and let’s get comfortable…

If we were sitting in my living room right now, I’d hand you a mug of whatever coffee I’m currently hyper-fixating on and move a stack of romantasy books off the sofa so you could sit down.

Let’s talk about the great planner delusion.

You know the one. It’s Sunday afternoon. You’ve got your Hobonichi open, a fresh cup of coffee, and you’re carefully laying down the perfect sticker. You write out your week in your best handwriting. You are an organized, mystical being who has their entire life under control.

And then, Tuesday hits.

Suddenly, the kids need something right now, a work deadline abruptly shifts, or an assignment takes three hours longer than it should have. By Wednesday morning, that pristine, aesthetic spread is just a frantic, scribbled survival list with a coffee stain on it.

For a long time, looking at those messy pages made me feel like I was failing at the whole "planner community" thing. But here is the reality: life isn't a straight line. It's a wildly unpredictable narrative. Trying to force a chaotic week into a rigid checklist is a guaranteed recipe for a headache.

So, I gave up on the illusion of the perfect week and decided to just start planning for the plot twist.

That’s what Fable & Folio is really about. We’re using the "Folio"—the paper, the layouts, the messy brain dumps—to contain the chaos. A crossed-out task isn't a failure; it’s just an edit to the story. If you need to migrate a to-do list three days in a row because life went off-script, you are in good company here.

But let’s be completely honest about the real reason we do this. I don't obsess over my planner because I want to be a productivity machine.

I plan so I can read.

If I get the schedules, the errands, and the noise out of my head and onto paper, I can finally close the book on the real world for the day. It clears the mental clutter so I can curl up with a dark fantasy novel and completely escape without that nagging voice asking if I remembered to switch the laundry.
